All mobile data should be encrypted

May 21, 2009

This isn’t the first place you heard it but I’ll reiterate what you’ve most likely heard elsewhere. THERE IS NO REASON YOU SHOULDN’T ENCRYPT ALL OF YOUR DATA!!! In a recent article on the government security news website, Phillip Dunkelberger said “The most commonly used mobile defense scheme currently is data encryption. Originally developed to protect data in motion via e-mail or file transfer, strong encryption tools are now widely deployed to protect laptops and handheld devices, because that’s where data is most vulnerable. Encrypted disk drives are so pervasive that the big six drive manufacturers will likely sell nothing but encrypted drives within three years.” With services out there like TrueCrypt,, you can encrypt your data easily and at no cost.
